The young American singer Diane Birch is the new rising star on the musical scene. For Diane, a preacher’s daughter, religion has always been part of her already rich existence and is thoroughly noticeable in her song repertoire.
Hailing from Michigan, Diane Birch, 26, is also a traveller from early on due to the numerous moves of her father : indeed, Diane spent a good part of her childhood in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Australia before settling back to the States. Birch commented that this nomad life forced to grow up and gain maturity faster than expected as well as integrating new cultures.
With the first notes of Fire Escape, the song which opens her album Bible Belt, the influences of blues, gospel, rythm’n’blues and folk are largely felt on Diane’s songs, all of which she wrote and arranged. Putting on gem after gem, varying styles, Diane impresses with the quality and the richness of her compositions and mesmerizes with her sweet voice, which is reminiscent of Carole King or Joni Mitchell, giving its particular timeless feeling to this first convincing recording.
Diane Birch talks about failed relationships, ups and downs. Diane excels on both driving songs like Valentino or the very funky Choo Choo as well melancholic ballads, establishing Birch as one of the most promising artists of the moment.
Nothing but a miracle, the main track from the album, is an exquisite piece of subtility and simplicity, during which she tells her frustration about a man “who doesn’t give a damn” about her. Once again, Birch shines with her agile and unique voice, making her music immediately recognizable.
Diane Birch has already travelled the world and might do it again very soon so as to share her undeniable talent. Diane Birch is nothing more than a musical miracle for our greatest happiness.
